As a huge admirer of the Dutch artists and particularly Vermeer, I enjoyed using his classic (Girl with a pearl earring) pose of a glance back..over the shoulder. The image seemed to create itself..and a question continued to haunt me as "Elizabeth" appeared in my mind's eye...Is she looking back to catch the eye of a young man who has caught her fancy?....or...Is she looking with longing to a young man whom she knows she cannot have?
The lace veil also was a mystery...I've not seen one like it...it has a Spanish flair..or perhaps Edwardian. Who knows?
