When hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the surrounding Coast I was overcome with saddness and concern. We had been there only one week before.
I had to do more than send money...I had to create something that showed the pain...the struggle, but also an image that showed hope ....hope, accompanied with strength and resolve.
"The Bus Ride" seemed my vehicle.
One wonders where this woman and child came from, where they are going, where is their family? The strength of this mother, a strength honed by lifelong strife ... seems equaled only by the gentle and protective touch with which she holds her child. |
